About Main Pumps

Hot Tub Pump and Spa Pump Replacements — 60 Models In Stock

A hot tub pump or spa pump is the workhorse of your spa system, moving water through jets, heaters, and filters to keep everything running. Whether you're a service technician tracking down a failed motor or an owner hearing an ominous hum at startup, this collection covers circulation, jet, and bath pumps from the most trusted names in the industry — in the exact voltage, horsepower, and frame size your spa needs.

How to Choose the Right Spa Pump

Getting the wrong pump is the most expensive mistake in spa repair. Match on every one of these specs before ordering:

  • Horsepower: Our range runs from 1/15 HP circulation pumps up to a 5 HP single-speed jet pump. Never upsize horsepower unless your plumbing, breaker, and control board are rated for it.
  • Voltage — 115V vs. 230V: Confirm voltage at the pump terminal or your control board wiring diagram. Mixing voltages destroys a motor instantly. The 1 HP FMHP 115V and the 2 HP FMXP2 230V are not interchangeable even though they look similar.
  • Speed — 1-speed vs. 2-speed: Most jet pumps are 2-speed; the low speed runs filtration and the high speed fires the jets. Replacing a 2-speed with a 1-speed changes how your control board behaves and may require rewiring.
  • Frame size — 48-frame vs. 56-frame: The 56-frame motor is physically larger. Check the diameter of the motor housing before ordering. The Large Frame 4 HP 56WUA400A-II will not drop into a 48-frame footprint.
  • Port size and plumbing connections: Match the suction and discharge fitting sizes (common: 1-1/2" or 2" MBT/barb). The Sundance/Jacuzzi 6000-125RK uses a 3/4" barb — atypical, and brand-specific.
  • OEM part number: Whenever you have it, match the original part number exactly. Brands like Aqua-Flo and Waterway have model families (FMXP2, FMXP2E, FMHP, FMCP) with different wet-end and motor pairings that look alike but are not interchangeable.

If your original pump has been discontinued, see our Discontinued Waterway Pump Replacement Guide for cross-reference help.

Brands We Carry

  • Aqua-Flo by Gecko — Industry-standard FMXP2, FMHP, and FMCP series; widely cross-referenced and broadly compatible.
  • Waterway — WUA and Executive series; large-frame high-HP options favored in Sundance and many custom builds.
  • Balboa / Vico — The Ultimax line is a direct OEM fit for Balboa-controlled spas.
  • Sundance Spas / Jacuzzi — OEM-matched pumps for LX Series and 6000-series models requiring brand-specific port configurations.
  • Dimension One Spas — Maelstrom jet pumps built for D1's proprietary plumbing layouts.
  • Hot Spring Spas — Pumps spec'd to Hot Spring's voltage and flow requirements.
  • Master Spa — Replacement pumps matched to Master Spa's control system demands.
  • Allied Innovations, Gecko Alliance, CMP, Laing, LX — Specialty and OEM pumps covering a broad range of legacy and current spa platforms.

Common Problems This Part Solves

  • Pump hums but won't turn over: Usually a failed start capacitor or a seized impeller — the motor receives power but can't spin. See our guide on spa pump humming but not running before assuming the whole pump needs replacement.
  • No water flow, jets weak or dead: A worn impeller, cavitation, or a burned winding drops flow dramatically. If the circulation pump is the culprit, see spa circulation pump not working — diagnosis and fix.
  • Water leaking from behind the motor: A failed shaft seal is the most common wet-end leak. Read spa pump seal leak — signs and replacement to decide whether you need a seal kit or a complete pump.
  • Pump runs but trips breaker: Indicates a shorted winding or a motor drawing excess amperage — replace the pump before the breaker or GFCI fails repeatedly.
  • Control board shows pump fault / no prime: Often caused by an air-locked or under-powered pump failing to reach operating pressure within the timeout window.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I replace just the wet end instead of the whole pump?

Yes, if the motor tests good and only the impeller housing or seal is damaged. We stock wet ends separately — see our Pump Wet Ends collection. Match the wet end to the exact motor frame and model family, as wet ends are not universal across series.

What's the difference between a jet pump and a circulation pump?

A jet pump is high-horsepower (typically 1–5 HP) and runs intermittently to power massage jets. A circulation pump is low-horsepower (often 1/15–1/6 HP) and runs continuously to filter and heat the water. They are not interchangeable. Browse dedicated Circulation Pumps if that's what you need.

How do I know if I need a 1-speed or 2-speed pump?

Check your existing pump's label — it will say "1 SPD" or "2 SPD" and list the full-load amps for each speed. Your control board wiring determines which type you must use. Installing a 1-speed pump in a 2-speed circuit will typically disable low-speed filtration.

Is a higher HP pump always better for jet pressure?

Not necessarily. Your plumbing diameter, number of jets, and manifold design set a maximum flow the system can use. Oversizing HP strains fittings, accelerates seal wear, and can overload your control board or breaker. Match the original HP unless a qualified technician has evaluated your system for an upgrade.

My pump model has been discontinued — can I find a replacement?

Often yes. Many frames and wet ends cross-reference across brands. Our Discontinued Waterway Pump Replacement Guide walks through the cross-reference process. Key specs to bring: HP, voltage, speed, frame size, and port dimensions.

Do spa pumps come with a warranty?

Warranty terms vary by brand and model — check the individual product page for details. In general, OEM and name-brand pumps carry manufacturer warranties; always install with clean water, correct voltage, and proper priming to avoid voiding coverage.
